Trapani Conservatory Launches New Music4D Course on Machine Learning and Performance.

The MUSIC4D project is expanding its educational scope with a new initiative in Trapani. The “Antonio Scontrino” Conservatory is launching the advanced course “Machine Learning for Artistic Practice”, a program that shifts the focus from theory to practical application by bringing Artificial Intelligence directly onto the stage. Led by scientific supervisor Jennifer Nicolay (Uncommon Frequencies UG), the course represents a key milestone in the technological implementation of the PNRR-funded plan led by the Palermo Conservatory.

This laboratory serves as a proving ground for the artists involved in the project “Linea: Intersections between Music and Dance.” Here, the use of sensors and machine learning models enables the real-time translation of the performers’ gestures and energy into sound modulations and dynamic digital scenography. This intensive training prepares the network’s talents for their upcoming tour of Brazil in May, with scheduled performances at UNESP University in São Paulo (May 6) and UFMG University in Belo Horizonte (May 7).

Online sessions will take place via Microsoft Teams from April 11 to 29, exploring the potential of software such as Wekinator and TouchDesigner. To ensure the widest possible dissemination of these skills, the full series of lessons will be converted into a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), providing an asynchronous learning resource for all network partners. Upon completion, an official certificate will be issued, verifying the acquisition of new professional skills tailored for the contemporary digital stage.
