A Symphony of Rebirth

AFAM4Sicily is a project promoted by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), established with a clear and profound objective: to transform culture into a concrete instrument of rebirth.

Hosted at the “Alessandro Scarlatti” Conservatory of Music in Palermo, the project was born from a pressing need: to accompany the community of Niscemi on a journey of reconstruction following the severe events that have scarred its territory and social fabric. In this context, music and art transcend mere forms of expression; they become vital tools for connection, sources of hope, and catalysts for a process of collective emotional regeneration.

The centerpiece of this journey will be the major launch event on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in Palermo, marking the public inauguration of the project with the active involvement of institutions, the AFAM system, and the community.

An Unprecedented Network

AFAM4Sicily mobilizes the entire Higher Education in Art and Music (AFAM) system of Sicily, extending its reach beyond regional borders to build a unique collaborative network.

Today, Niscemi is a territory bearing the marks of dramatic events, yet it is also a community seeking guidance toward a new path. AFAM4Sicily pursues both ambitious and tangible goals. On one hand, it promotes a fundraising initiative dedicated to supporting social, educational, and cultural projects for the Niscemi community. On the other, it creates an open space for participation where people can meet, recognize themselves in one another, and rediscover a sense of belonging. The event on April 9th is the heart of this process: a moment to reflect on the history and identity of the territory through music, art, and innovation, featuring a diverse program of installations, institutional meetings, and an immersive concert.

A Protagonist Community

The project unfolds through a series of initiatives and concerts across Sicily, featuring the performance “From Morricone to Bacalov: The Music of Southern Italian Cinema.” This is more than just a concert: it is an immersive experience that transforms some of the most iconic soundtracks of Italian cinema—specifically those inspired by Southern Italy—into a groundbreaking stage language. Here, cinematic memory and digital experimentation merge into a single, emotional narrative.

From The Leopard to Cinema Paradiso, from Il Postino to Baarìa, the music that has shaped the emotional identity of entire generations is reinterpreted and regenerated with both respect and courage. These pieces are treated not as a static “repertoire” but as living material, as capable of speaking to an audience in New York as they do to our own towns and squares. It is a journey into the Mediterranean of auteur cinema—a tribute to the giants of film composition, Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, and Luis Bacalov—but above all, it is a declaration of love. Tradition is not celebrated by repetition, but by making it contemporary and expanding its evocative power through the tools of the present.
