The “Antonio Scontrino” Conservatory of Trapani, directed by prof.ssa Elisa Cordova, stands out as one of the most attentive musical institutions to the Mediterranean dimension and to the cultural enhancement of Southern Italy. With its growing commitment to the MUSIC4D project, the Trapani Conservatory positions itself as an experimental laboratory for new music technologies, while maintaining a strong connection to its identity and heritage.

Its participation in the MUSIC4D project takes shape through a series of initiatives that aim to merge tradition and digitalization in a process involving students, faculty, researchers, and external partners. The Conservatory has made significant investments in designing new educational pathways focused on augmented musical creation, through workshops, sound labs, immersive installations, and meetings with experts in robotics and sound engineering.

Joining MUSIC4D has also given a major boost to the Conservatory’s institutional communication, including the launch of a public selection process for a press and communications officer. This move reflects a contemporary and open vision aimed at enhancing the Conservatory’s artistic output on both national and international levels. Today, musical culture is increasingly seen as a value to be told, shared, and made accessible beyond academic walls.

Through its project-based activities, the “Scontrino” has built a stable bridge between higher education and the cultural fabric of western Sicily, through widespread concerts, artistic residencies, collaborations with schools, and involvement with local institutions. This territorial link has become the foundation for developing international-facing initiatives, with the goal of establishing Trapani as a cultural hub open to European networks of music and research.

Within the MUSIC4D workshop, the Conservatory is preparing to contribute to the Symphony of the Earth, offering its voice through a sonic landscape that embraces the sea, the wind, the Mediterranean light, and the vibrant popular spirit of its surroundings. Here, the idea of a digital art form that maintains contact with the soul of places finds a concrete application—thanks in part to ongoing dialogue with partner conservatories.

Trapani thus emerges as a cultural crossroads, capable of experimentation, inclusion, and innovation—demonstrating that even in the provinces of the South, global music can be born, ready to inhabit the platforms of the future without losing its poetic depth.
