Niscemi: Art Mobilizes as AFAM4Sicily Launches Creative Fundraising for Regional Reconstruction

Institutional meeting on March 25 between a MUSIC4D delegation and Mayor Conti. Key event on April 9 in Palermo with Minister Bernini and Civil Protection Chief Ciciliano.

PALERMO, March 24, 2026 – The Higher Education in Art and Music (AFAM) system is mobilizing for Niscemi, hit by a major hydrogeological disaster in January. On Wednesday, March 25, MUSIC4D leaders will meet with the local administration to officially launch “AFAM4Sicily: Rebirth through Music and Art,” a solidarity initiative promoted by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR). The intervention focuses on an innovative creative fundraising model: an ecosystem of artistic installations, workshops, and immersive performances designed to incentivize concrete donations for a territory where landslides have left dozens of buildings unsafe.

The culmination of this synergy between Sicily’s Conservatories and Fine Arts Academies will be a large-scale event on Thursday, April 9, at the Alessandro Scarlatti Conservatory in Palermo. The event will be attended by the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, and the Extraordinary Commissioner and Head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabio Ciciliano. Also expected are the President of the Sicily Region, Renato Schifani, and the Mayor of Palermo, Roberto Lagalla.

The April 9 program includes interactive visual and sound paths, music therapy sessions, and a final concert. Support activities will continue through December 2026. “AFAM4Sicily” is part of MUSIC4D, a PNRR project led by the Palermo Conservatory. Through this action, Higher Education places innovation and research at the service of social emergencies, transforming institutional vision into concrete acts for the reconstruction of the Niscemi community.
