MUSIC4D Brings the Music of Italian Cinema to the UN in Geneva

Following its American success, “From Morricone to Bacalov” arrives at the Palace of Nations on February 5th. A cultural diplomacy event marking Italy’s entry into the Human Rights Council.

GENEVA – The sound of great Italian cinema becomes a message of cultural dialogue on the world stage. After captivating audiences in Los Angeles and at New York’s Carnegie Hall, the MUSIC4D project is now arriving at the United Nations Palace in Geneva. On Thursday, February 5th, at 6:00 PM, the Assembly Hall will host the show “From Morricone to Bacalov: The Music of Southern Italian Cinema,” an event of strong symbolic value coinciding with the start of Italy’s term on the Human Rights Council (2026-28).

This will not be a simple concert, but an immersive experience that reinterprets the iconic film scores inspired by Southern Italy—from The Leopard to Cinema Paradiso—through a contemporary language that blends music, technology, and research. The compositions of Morricone, Rota, and Bacalov, the emotional memory of entire generations, will be presented as living material, capable of telling the story of a South that is not a periphery, but a generative source of universal narratives.

“Bringing this repertoire here means recognizing that music has a role that goes beyond art, transforming it into a meeting space,” explained conductor Michelangelo Galeati, an advisor for MUSIC4D. “It is a way to demonstrate that the culture of the South is not just memory, but a creative force capable of generating future and dialogue.”

Under his direction, an ensemble of professors and young talents from the project’s partner Conservatories will deliver a performance enhanced by cutting-edge technology: motion sensors will transform the conductor’s gestures into real-time sound and light, while a platform developed by the partner University will translate rhythms into visual geometries generated by artificial intelligence.

This stop in Geneva represents a key milestone for MUSIC4D, the PNRR project led by the Conservatory of Palermo, which is establishing itself as an integrated model of higher education, cultural production, and technological innovation. An ideal bridge between the imagination of Southern Italy and the places where tomorrow is being shaped.
